چکیده

The Euler equations for a non-homogeneous, non-viscous ~ompressible fluid are shown to be well-posed for a short time interval~ using techniques of infinite dimensional geometry and a weighted Hodge theorem. Regularity and other properties of these solutions are pointed out as well. !. Introduction. In [2], D. Ebin and the author introduced a technique for solving the Euler equations for a perfect (homogeneous, non-viscous, incompressible) fluid based on the use of the group JD~ of Sobolev class HS(or Ws,p or Holder class ck+a ) volume preserving diffeomorphisms. This method originated in an idea of V. Arnold [1]. 215 Copyright cO 1976 by Marcel Dekker. Inc. All Rights Reserved. Exponential Decay for Small Non-Linear Perturbations of Expanding Flat Homogeneous Cosmologies

It is shown that during expanding phases of flat homogeneous cosmologies all small enough non-linear perturbations decay exponentially. This result holds for a large class of perfect fluid equations of state, but notably not for very “stiff” fluids as the pure radiation case.

Characterisation of orthogonal perfect fluid cosmological spacetimes

We consider the general orthogonal metric separable in space and time variables in comoving coordinates. We then characterise perfect fluid models admitted by such a metric. It turns out that the homogeneous models can only be either FLRW or Bianchi I while the inhomogeneous ones can only admit G2 (two mutually as well as hypersurface orthogonal spacelike Killing vectors) isometry. The latter c...

Fluid Observers and Tilting Cosmology

We study perfect fluid cosmological models with a constant equation of state parameter γ in which there are two naturally defined time-like congruences, a geometrically defined geodesic congruence and a non-geodesic fluid congruence. We establish an appropriate set of boost formulae relating the physical variables, and consequently the observed quantities, in the two frames. We study expanding ...

We show that in tilting perfect fluid cosmological models with an ultra-radiative equation of state, generically the tilt becomes extreme at late times and, as the tilt instability sets in, observers moving with the tilting fluid will experience singular behaviour in which infinite expansion is reached within a finite proper time, similar to that of phantom cosmology (but without the need for e...

Qualitative Properties of Scalar-Tensor Theories of Gravity

The qualitative properties of spatially homogeneous stiff perfect fluid and minimally coupled massless scalar field models within general relativity are discussed. Consequently, by exploiting the formal equivalence under conformal transformations and field redefinitions of certain classes of theories of gravity, the asymptotic properties of spatially homogeneous models in a class of scalar-tens...
